Cyber-Physical Systems & Digital Twins – Introduction

Starting date: 2026-02-17
Price: 4 995 SEK ex. vat

This module covers the general terminology and concepts related to CPS & DT.

Overview

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are computational entities that collaborate and interact with the physical world, utilizing data-accessing and processing services available on the internet (Monostori, 2014). Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) are autonomous and cooperative systems that connect at different production levels, including processes, production lines, and logistics networks. Modeling and predicting the behavior of CPPS pose research challenges, particularly in integrating analytical and simulation-based models with their physical counterparts known as Digital Twins (DT). This module provides an overview of CPS and DT terminology, concepts, and their various industrial applications, such as product design, manufacturing systems, planning, optimization, control, and maintenance.

Time commitment

This module take about 4 hours per week over 5 weeks to complete (20 hours in total). Webinars are included where you engage in deeper discussions on selected topics, together with teachers and co-learners. You will be onboarded to the learning portal on Friday before the starting date.
